Traffic calming solutions began to be introduced throughout Europe and North America during the 1960s. Many people were concerned about road safety issues, as well as the impact of traffic on residential areas.

speed bump is a rounded traffic calming device used to reduce vehicle speed and volume on residential streets. Humps are placed across the road to slow traffic and are often installed in a series of several humps in order to prevent cars from speeding before and after the hump.

Speed humps are constructed of asphalt, concrete, or rubber. While traditionally most humps were constructed of asphalt or concrete.

The disadvantage of asphalt and concrete bumps are difficult to construct and to remove. But Speed humps have traditionally been constructed of concrete or asphalt and were permanent fixtures after installment. However, it’s now becoming more popular to use speed humps made from rubber. This provides more options than the concrete and asphalt humps offer.

Rubber speed humps are more economical, flexible, portable, and durable. They can be used permanently or temporarily. Since they can easily be installed and removed, the humps can be used repeatedly to test the feasibility of hump placements. These humps can also easily be removed during severe weather or relocated to a new area whenever a change in traffic flow is required. Also, rubber speed humps are more easily pre-formed to meet standardization and size requirements. These humps are also ideal for protecting utility cables and pipes during road construction projects. Basically, rubber speed humps make ideal traffic calming solutions.
