Bumpfree Dynamic Speed Bumps

A type of speed bump has been designed to let vehicles that are traveling within the speed limit pass over them unimpeded. Sounds clever doesn’t it? I’ll tell you what else sounds clever… non-Newtonian Thixotropic fluid. Ever heard of it? No, neither had I, until I read James Dyson talking about them in Design Week.


Internal cells within the speed bump will contain this thin liquid which will instantly react with the speed at which a driver makes contact with the speed-bump. Designed by an Australian student from Newcastle University, Bryce Killen, the Bumpfree Dynamic Speed Bump has made the shortlist for the 2010 Australian Design Awards.
